  1. Click Edit <\/strong>to enter Visual Editor once more.<\/li>\n
  2. Create<\/strong> a heading of \u2018Things I like\u2019 or ‘About me’. <\/em>Hit return.<\/li>\n
  3. Type<\/strong> a list of 2-3 things you like doing e.g. watching movies, reading books, going for walks.<\/li>\n
  4. Select<\/strong> the entire list so it is highlighted.<\/li>\n
  5. Click on the next dropdown to the right of the Cite dropdown menu. This is the List menu.<\/strong><\/li>\n
  6. Click on either \u2018Bullet list\u2019<\/em> or \u2018Numbered list\u2019<\/em> in the List dropdown menu. Then Save Changes<\/strong> with an edit summary of \u2018Added a list\u2019<\/em>. Click \u2018Save changes\u2019<\/strong> once more.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Adding categories

    Categories appear at the bottom of a Wikipedia page and they appear at the far right hand side of the Visual Editor. This is the last step in our formatting training.<\/p>\n

    1. Click Edit<\/strong> to enter Visual Editor.<\/li>\n
    2. Select<\/strong> the dropdown menu at the far right hand side of the Visual Editor symbolised by 3 horizontal lines. Select the Categories <\/strong>option.<\/li>\n
    3. Type<\/strong> an example category by typing into the box. e.g. Wikipedians<\/em> <\/strong>or Wikipedians in Scotland<\/em><\/strong>. If the link turns red<\/strong><\/span> then click on the red category and use the \u2018bin\u2019 symbol to delete the problem category.<\/li>\n
    4. Click \u2018Apply changes\u2019<\/strong> when one or two categories have been added correctly and Save Changes<\/strong> with an edit summary of \u2018added categories\u2019<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      These categories should now appear as blue<\/span><\/strong> clickable links at the foot of the userpage.<\/p>\n

      NB: Categories need to be spelt exactly as they appear on Wikipedia. If a space is in the wrong place or a capital letter or an \u2018s\u2019 at the end of the line is missed out then it will not find the category and it will create a red-linked category. As much as possible we work with existing categories on Wikipedia but in certain circumstances it may be appropriate to create a new<\/em> category.<\/p>\n

      If you are unsure which categories should be added to a Wikipedia page you are drafting then best practice is to check out a similar Wikipedia page to see which categories they made use of and follow suit.<\/p>\n

      In fact that is true of drafting Wikipedia articles in general. You should draft your article in your sandbox (your personal draftspace) and use an exemplar page as your guideline.<\/p>\n
