Most learning technologists and digital leaders have experienced the procurement of a replacement VLE, or a migration or upgrade.\u00a0 It is rare that we get to work with partners to design from the start, thinking about the new relationships you can make with your learners if you do it right.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"fontColorThemeDarker\" dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN-US\">Bringing courses from across the University together on a single platform with a consistent learner experience will require both technical and business changes to processes, training and best practice. The Short Courses Platform will be delivered through a phased rollout <\/span><span class=\"fontColorThemeDarker\">where we develop capability, test with early adopters and then scale the platform and service.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"fontColorThemeDarker\">The plan is being finalised and key dates will be published\u00a0 when they are available. For now we are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"fontColorThemeDarker\">Holding workshops throughout March 2024 to co-design the new processes and specifications with the steering groups.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"fontColorThemeDarker\">Establishing platform based roles\/permissions, SSO and configuration to support the initial early adopter courses.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"fontColorThemeDarker\">Working with a small set of agreed early adopter courses and tutors, from the Centre for Open Learning (COL), to develop support and guidance and trial the initial course templates and learner experience for courses running from Summer &#8217;24.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"fontColorThemeDarker\">Developing the University&#8217;s new short course platform web catalogue including the course search and course description pages.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"fontColorThemeDarker\">Collating the short course inventory to understand when courses may move to the Short Courses Platform. \u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"a_b_50a7110f a_b_50a7110f root-158 CanvasZone row CanvasZone--alignment CanvasZone--noMargin CanvasZone--read\" data-automation-id=\"CanvasZone\" data-theme-emphasis=\"2\">\n<div class=\"g_b_50a7110f f_b_50a7110f\">\n<div class=\"a_c_50a7110f m_c_50a7110f CanvasSection CanvasSection-col CanvasSection-sm12 CanvasSection--read CanvasSection-xl12 n_c_50a7110f\" data-automation-id=\"CanvasSection\">\n<div id=\"fd7e40df-37ba-4fd6-a4a1-6ac2caf49fbc\" class=\"ControlZone ControlZone--clean a_a_50a7110f\" data-automation-id=\"CanvasControl\">\n<div class=\"ControlZone--control\">\n<div class=\"rte-webpart rte--ck5 rte--read-ck5 headerFontSizeLegacy\" dir=\"auto\" data-sp-feature-tag=\"Rich Text Editor\" data-sp-feature-instance-id=\"fd7e40df-37ba-4fd6-a4a1-6ac2caf49fbc\">\n<div class=\"ck-content rteEmphasis root-159\" data-automation-id=\"textBox\">\n<p><span class=\"fontColorThemeDarker\" dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN-GB\">The introduction of the platform, and supporting service, is the latest step in the University\u2019s Digital Estate Strategy and aims to\u00a0<strong>provide accessible and appropriate teaching and learning experiences for non-credited short courses<\/strong>. It is the start of a new relationship with Edinburgh learners who are not matriculated &#8216;students&#8217; and who bring a new set of expectations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Matriculated learners on campus and online will continue to learn via our Learn Ultra VLE, and staff development courses will be delivered on our corporate L&amp;D platform. MOOC learners will still find us on EdX, Futurelearn and Coursera. Key areas from the strategy that this project supports:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span class=\"fontColorThemeDarker\" dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN-GB\"><strong>Social and Civic Responsibility\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013 widening participation in higher education and supporting inclusion.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"fontColorThemeDarker\" dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN-GB\"><strong>Teaching and Learning<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 encourage a culture of lifelong learning, greater focus on focuses on experience, employability.<\/span><span class=\"fontColorThemeDarker\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"fontColorThemeDarker\" dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN-GB\"><strong>People<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 bring together people from a wide range of backgrounds and experience, both close to home and across the globe.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"fontColorThemeDarker\" dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN-GB\"><strong>Research<\/strong> \u2013 as a research institution, many of the University\u2019s short courses extend the impact of research taking place by bringing outputs and findings direct to learners across the world.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"fontColorThemeDarker\" dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN-US\">In January 2024, we started working with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instructure.com\/\">Instructure<\/a>, and their delivery partners <a href=\"https:\/\/drieam.com\/en\/\">Drieam<\/a>, to design and configure the system alongside establishing the service processes, migrating courses and drafting guidance and training. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"fontColorThemeDarker\" dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN-US\">Steering Groups with representatives from across the University will support the Board and guide the implementation. <\/span><span class=\"fontColorThemeDarker\" dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 1.4rem\">Visit <\/span><a style=\"font-size: 1.4rem\" href=\"https:\/\/uoe.sharepoint.com\/sites\/shortcoursesplatform\/SitePages\/Project%20Governance.aspx\"><span class=\"fontColorThemePrimary\" dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN-US\">Project Governance<\/span><\/a><span class=\"fontColorNeutralDark\" dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 1.4rem\">\u00a0for\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"fontColorThemeDarker\" dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN-US\" style=\"font-size: 1.4rem\">more information and details of the Board and Steering Group members.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s not often you get to start from scratch putting together a new learning platform for a University.
