No rights reserved by me.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>I called out the myths of digital natives again today at a <a href=\"https:\/\/wonkhe.com\/events\/future-of-learning-resources\/\">WonkHE event on the Future of Learning Resources<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I am impressed with how long this idea has been perpetuated, it clearly offers a hook for those who want to push for innovation, but it still has an air of ageism and is a worrying starting point for service or course design.<\/p>\n<p>As a reminder, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marcprensky.com\/writing\/Prensky%20-%20Digital%20Natives,%20Digital%20Immigrants%20-%20Part1.pdf\">Prensky wrote that stuff in 2001<\/a>. That&#8217;s 20 years ago.<\/p>\n<p>Those college grads\u00a0 he was writing about are well into their 30s and 40s now.\u00a0 They are the faculty, the librarians and the support staff in universities. If they were all\u00a0 \u201cnative speakers\u201d of the &#8216;<em>digital language of computers, video games and the Internet<\/em>&#8216;\u00a0\u00a0 they would by now have turned all teaching into &#8216;<em>edu-tainment<\/em>&#8216; and games as he predicted and we wouldn&#8217;t be finding it so hard to deliver good quality higher education online this year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I called out the myths of digital natives again today at a WonkHE event on the Future of Learning Resources.
