We are encouraged to make a #pledgeforparity.<\/p>\n<p>Without wishing to sound parroty and go on about the same things all the time, the parity I&#8217;ll be championing is parity of coverage and parity of esteem in Wikipedia.<\/p>\n<p><i><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalgalleries.org\/whatson\/on-now-coming-soon\/modern-scottish-women\/\">Modern Scottish Women<\/a><\/i> is an exhibition of work by Scottish women artists and concentrates on painters and sculptors. It covers the period from 1885, when Fra Newbery became Director of Glasgow School of Art, until 1965, the year of Anne Redpath\u2019s death. The exhibition is on now and will be there until my birthday in June.<\/p>\n<p>In a 2011 survey, the Wikimedia Foundation found that less than 15% of its contributors identify as female\u00a0 and less than 20% of the English language Wikipedia&#8217;s biographies are about women. As a result, content is skewed by the lack of female participation.<\/p>\n<p>On <i>Saturday 5 March 2016, 12:00 pm \u2013 4:45 pm t<\/i>here&#8217;s an <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wikipedia:GLAM\/MGS\/Events_and_Workshops\/Modern_Scottish_Women_2_-_Art_%2B_Feminism\">editathon at the Portrait Gallery<\/a>\u00a0 to improve and include the information about those artists in Wikipedia.* There&#8217;s a follow up event on the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Wikipedia:University_of_Edinburgh\/Events_and_Workshops\/International_Women%27s_Day_2016\">8th at the University to continue the good work<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>People are always telling me that the reason women don&#8217;t edit wikipedia is because they&#8217;ve got better things to do. This seems like a good thing to do.
